DID you know that you can make your loved one super comfortable while providing extreme therapeutic benefits? Here’s how:

WHEN my mom reached a stage where she could no longer ambulate safely or stay positioned safely in her wheelchair, I had to pursue solutions. At the same time, mom had other risk, which included incontinence, a reoccurring small pressure area on her coccyx, lower extremity edema, a history of pulmonary embolisms and a propensity to rigidity and contractures. My solutions had to address all her risk and contribute to her comfortability and peace of mind. I still had a goal of creating a positive environment.

THERE are many different medical devices on the market, but the average person is not always aware of what’s the best for their loved one. For me, I had extensive knowledge of what’s available and which devices are quality and which are not.

I chose a Broda Chair. Throughout my tenure in the post-acute care industry, I had requested this chair for many patients that where in the same condition as my mom was. The benefits addressed all my moms’ risk. The chair allowed mom to be mobile, in that she could be transferred comfortably anywhere and enjoy the outdoors while reclining or having her feet elevated. The chair is able to tilt in various positions which allows for weight shifting, this supports proper pressure distribution that helped prevent my mom from having the reoccurring pressure wound on her coccyx from reopening. The ability to routinely reposition also supported my mom’s respiratory system, ensuring the best perfusion of oxygenated blood flow. The chair allowed mom to move her arms freely while offering cushioned support to prevent the potential of skin tears. As a caregiver, I knew that mom was comfortable, able to be exposed to various positive environments, and always positioned in the most correct way possible. I truly believe I achieved my goals.
